Why these gifts here — besides, I love tigers?
Most come from GifCities, the Internet Archive’s animated GIF search engine built from old GeoCities pages. It started as a 20th anniversary project in 2016 as a way to celebrate the weird, joyful, low-fi layer of web history that lives inside the Wayback Machine.
Having them here feels right. These little animations existed
on someone’s homepage in the 90s. Keeping them around is
a small act of web revival: part archive care, part play.
